The
Information Technology Department is responsible for the
provision and appropriate application of technology
to support the District’s mission of governmental excellence.
Like other progressive organizations, the RCID has become increasingly
dependent upon technology. All departments within the District
rely heavily on technology to perform their jobs and to provide
the level of service taxpayers have come to expect.
The IT Department has five full-time computer professionals,
one Public Records Administrator and a clerical assistant.
The IT staff is available to help users with computer-related
problems and assist the various departments with technology
evaluations. IT is also responsible for the administration
of the District network, file and application servers, the
e-mail system and the building security systems. Due to the
fast-changing pace of technology, IS staff members not only
attend annual training classes but develop and teach internal
training programs. Consumption of technical publications assures
that the IT Department will stay current on technical developments
and warrants, from a technology standpoint, that the District
will continue to provide a high level of governmental service.
The Public Records Administrator is responsible for administering
the District’s records management policy and guarantees
that all public records requests are handled efficiently and
in accordance with Florida law. The Public Records Administrator
is also in the process of designing the District’s electronic
document management system. When finished, this system will
provide a central database for records and will eliminate the
need for long-term storage of paper copies.
Since its creation, the IT Department has designed and installed
a state-of-the-art network infrastructure; upgraded and standardized
all desktop PCs; replaced and upgraded all network file servers;
installed a District-wide e-mail system; and replaced a number
of outdated software applications, including a HR/Payroll system,
a Finance system, a code compliance system for the Building
and Safety department and a new Computer Aided Dispatch and
Incident Reporting system for the Emergency Services department.
IT will continue to team with various departments in the District
to upgrade and replace their operating systems and insure the
highest quality of IT support service, and position RCID for
continued growth well into the twenty-first century.
