EMERGENCY SERVICES
FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
POSTING DATE: June 12, 2009 CLOSING DATE: Until Filled CLASSIFICATION: Fire Protection Systems Technician
HOURS: 40 hours – Evening hours may be required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge and experience in fire prevention and building codes. Must have two years related experience and/or training in fixed water-based fire protection systems, inspection practices, maintenance requirements and documentation and records management as required by Florida Statute 633, Fire Prevention and Control. Fire Sprinkler Technicians are required to have and maintain the NICET Level II, Inspection and Testing of Water Based Systems certification as a condition of hire and a condition of continued employment, without the certification employee cannot be utilized out in the field. Certification as a Fire Safety Inspector is highly desired. Individual not certified as a Fire Safety Inspector, upon employment, will be required to gain certification within 3 years post employment as a condition of continued employment. An Associates degree is preferred. Must also have a valid Florida Driver’s license and maintain insurability under the District’s commercial vehicle insurance coverage.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspections of all water-based fire protection systems within the District including, but not limited to; water sprinkler systems, water spray systems, foam-water sprinkler systems, standpipes, combination standpipes and sprinkler systems, all piping that is an integral part of the system beginning at the point where the piping is used exclusively for fire protection.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms, talk and hear. Occasionally required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distant sedation, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be capable of wearing and using respiratory protection.
SALARY: Minimum starting salary $18.75/hr.

FINANCE
SENIOR PAYROLL CLERK
POSTING DATE: July 1, 2009 CLOSING DATE: Until Filled CLASSIFICATION: Senior Payroll Clerk
HOURS: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM – Monday thru Friday
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have experience working with computerized payroll/personnel systems, integrated accounting systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook. Must also have a valid Florida Driver’s license and maintain insurability under the District’s commercial vehicle insurance coverage
RESPONSIBILITIES: Compiles payroll data to maintain payroll records by performing the following duties. Compiles and inputs payroll data such as hours worked, vacation, sick leave, overtime, etc. Maintains files and records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, loan payments, and other deductions for each employee. Reconciles and remits payments for certain employee deductions such as child support and savings bonds. Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll. Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions. Knowledge and review of employees sick and vacation accruals and balances. Maintains records of disability and workers comp leave. Recording and depositing of daily cash receipts. Monthly reconciliation of certain non payroll related bank accounts. Recording of fixed asset purchases into the fixed asset system. Monthly reconciliation of other general ledger accounts as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to grasp or use a computer, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand and reach with hands. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
SALARY: Minimum starting wage rate: $15.27 hr.
