BUILDING & SAFETY

CHIEF TECHNICAL INSPECTOR
POSTING DATE: March 20, 2008
CLOSING DATE: Until Filled
CLASSIFICATION: Chief Technical Inspector
HOURS: 40 Hours per week

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Current State of Florida Certification as a Mechanical Inspector and Mechanical Plans Examiner. Supervisory experience is required. Graduation from high school or vocational school; preferably supplemented by college-level course work in mechanical engineering; and some experience at the level of Mechanical Inspector. Must possess excellent written, and oral communications skills.  Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and maintain insurability under the District's commercial vehicle coverage.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and assists in the enforcement of laws and regulations pertaining to mechanical, plumbing, fire protection systems and hoods and related installations; issues certificates authorizing use of approved installations. Supervises and participates in approving plans and specifications or in discussing with engineers, contractors, builders, or owners, modifications to be made to conform to established requirements; supervise and assists in interpreting legal requirements to contractors, builders and owners. Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to mechanical, plumbing, fire protection systems, hoods and installations. Thorough knowledge of the installation and maintenance requirements of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection systems, hoods and fuel gas systems. Thorough knowledge of the EPCOT Building Code as related to fire safety, the EPCOT Plumbing Code and the EPCOT Mechanical Code. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of office management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SALARY: Starting wage $1,126 per week

Building Inspector
POSTING DATE: May 5, 2008

CLOSING DATE: until filled

CLASSIFICATION: Building Inspector

HOURS: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school or vocational school, preferably supplemented by courses in engineering or related subjects and two years of college.  Licensed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as a Building Inspector and Building Plans Examiner with building codes and construction industry experience.  Detail oriented with good organizational skills required.  Ability to work independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews and checks blueprints, plans, and sketches prior to issuance of building permits or proposed construction and discusses requirements with engineers, contractors, builders, or owners.  Approves, modifies, and makes corrections to plans for resubmission.  Supervises and assists in the inspection of new construction, remodeling, repairs, etc. for permitting conforming with the EPCOT Building Code.  Checks size of excavations, setbacks, foundation walls, vents, structural columns and beams, location and layout of all steel reinforching and other portions of building as shown on plans, surveys, and line and grade. Checks for possession of permit and conformity to law.  Investigates for non-compliance with District codes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms, talk and hear.  Occasionally required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel or crawl.
 
SALARY:  Starting salary:  $1,033 per week

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Firefighter/EMT
POSTING DATE: April 18, 2008
CLOSING DATE: Until Filled
CLASSIFICATION: Firefighter/EMT
HOURS: 24 Hour Shift/48 Hour Workweek

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Work as a team member and/or individually in carrying out a variety of assignments in emergency situations.  Must possess up to date Florida certifications for Firefighter Minimum Standards, and EMT or Paramedic (Paramedic is preferred). Must possess a valid Florida State Driver's license and maintain insurability under the District's commercial vehicle coverage.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Applicants must possess and be able to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and abilities as outlined in the Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards Program.  Fire suppression activities include the demonstrated skills and depth of knowledge necessary to function under general supervision.  Will function safely and effectively as an integral member of a team of equally or less experienced firefighters to accomplish a series of tasks.  Assume duties as may be designated within the incident command system.

Participates in the medical treatment of patients in emergency and non-emergency situations.  Able to work as a team member or independently in the delivery of medical services and demonstrate knowledge and proficiency commensurate with highest medical certification held.  Provide for personal safety and the safety of others, patient assessment and emergency medical care, record keeping, data collection, and patient advocacy.

Conducts formal examination of an occupancy and its associated uses or processes to determine its compliance with the fire prevention and building code standards.  Prepare inspection reports, given observations from field inspections.  Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of Florida Statutes and fire prevention practices.

SALARY:    Minimum starting wage rate $15.02 per hour.
